37 ways to improve your pet’s wellbeing – Part 3 (Appropriate Environment)

Wellbeing is a massive topic. What are some of the ways you can improve your pet's environment?

16 - Give them a safe and secure resting place

Ensure your pet has somewhere to go where they can feel comfortable and know they won’t be disturbed, particularly by small humans!

17. Ensure they have enough exercise

All animals need space to exercise.  Many enclosures sold for small pets are far too small and 13% of dogs are not walked at least once a day.  Lack of exercise causes boredom and obesity.

18. Enrich their environment

Look at the environment from your pet’s perspective.  Cats often like to sit up high, do they have a suitable perch?  Rabbits like to burrow, can you provide them with tunnels?

19. Keep their environment safe and clean

Make sure that your pet cannot injure themselves: remove any wires that could be chewed, ensure there are no sharp bits of wood or metal poking out.  Clean your pet’s housing thoroughly at least once a week, and toilet areas more frequently, but make sure you use pet-safe cleaning products.
