Vaccinations

There are three highly deadly diseases which rabbits need vaccinating against. Until now, every rabbit has needed two vaccines a year, but a new vaccine has now been launched which provides protection against all three diseases in one go!
Myxomatosis and two strains of Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease cause severe illness and are usually fatal. They are transmitted by direct contact between domestic or wild rabbits, as well as being carried by biting insects and flies, and on shoes and clothing.
Having your rabbits vaccinated at home is much less stressful for them than travelling to a clinic. They are in their normal environment with no strange smells or noises. All rabbits will have a full health check at the time of the vaccination.
Every single rabbit is vulnerable to these diseases and needs annual vaccinations
For the vast majority of rabbits, a single vaccination this year and in future years will provide good protection. However, for a small portion of rabbits*, an initial course of two injections is needed to get full protection. Please contact us for advice.
*rabbits who have had the myxo-RHD vaccine but not an RHD-2 vaccination within the last year may not respond fully to the RHD-2 part of the combined vaccination so need a separate RHD-2 vaccine this year, then the combined vaccine annually afterwards
