Microchipping is a legal requirement for all dogs over 8 weeks of age (or when being transferred to a new owner) and is highly recommended for cats and other animals as well. It allows permanent identification of your pet.
Microchipping involves the simple implantation of a small electronic chip about the size of a grain of rice between the shoulder blades. The needle for implantation is slightly larger than a standard vaccination needle and causes minimal discomfort.
The microchip contains a unique 15 digit number which can be searched on a national database which contains your details, as your pet’s keeper. It is vitally important that your details are kept up to date on this database as otherwise, if your pet goes missing, you will not be able to be contacted. It is also important to inform the database if your pet goes missing or is suspected stolen. We can provide microchipping as part of any other consultation. Microchip implantation costs £10.
